Laura holds a masters degree in Nutrition & Rural Development – Main Subject Human Nutrition of Ghent University, Belgium and Bachelors degree in Food Science and Technology of Makerere University Kampala.
Laura is currently a Senior Nutritionist at the Ministry of Health, Nutrition Division and is the Maternal Infant Young Child and Adolescent Nutrition (MIYCAN) Focal Point. As a Senior Nutritionist at policy and programming level, Laura participates in the development of nutrition Policies, Regulations, Guidelines and Standards; nutrition advocacy, resource mobilization for nutrition intervention, and research to generate evidence to inform policy decision making.
As a MIYCAN Coordinator, Laura provides leadership role of overseeing MIYCAN implementation in the health sector while collaborating with other sectors that implement nutrition-sensitive interventions relevant to MIYCAN. In addition, Laura engages in capacity development on nutrition packages notably Baby Friendly Health Facility/Community Initiative (BFHI/BFCI), Community MIYCAN-Care Groups/SBCC package, Management of small and nutritionally at-risk Infants under 6 months and their mothers (MAMI), Health Facility MIYCAN, Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM), Family MUAC, Nutrition HMIS, and Nutrition in Emergencies; as well as providing technical support supervision, monitoring and evaluation of MIYCAN intervention at national and subnational levels.
Laura is a strong advocate for the protection, promotion, and support of breastfeeding in Uganda and spear heads the commemoration of global and national campaigns geared towards improvement of Maternal, Infant, Young Child and Adolescent nutrition and health in Uganda.
