The Ministry of Health and Partners organized the 4th National Annual Nutrition Symposium from 17th to 19th June 2025 at Speke Resort in Munyonyo. This is an annual event organized to deliberate on everything nutrition and this year, it was held under the theme “Strategic, Sustainable and Resilient Nutrition Interventions for a Healthier Future”.
Sub-themes included; Sustainable Nutrition for a healthier future, Re-imaging Child Nutrition, Nutrition and Food Security in a Changing Uganda, Youth and Nutrition, The future of Nutrition in health care and Data-Driven and Digital transformations in Nutrition.
Emphasis was placed on multisectoral collaboration, technology driven solutions and community led initiatives that enhance food security, dietary diversity and access to nutrition services.
The three day event was marked by presentations of ground breaking research and innovative approaches to improve the nutrition situation in the country. These included the promotion of sustainable food systems, reducing food waste and promoting alternative proteins; Exploring how sustainable food systems can strengthen resilience and challenges like climate change, economic shifts and health crisis; Innovative strategies to tackle malnutrition, childhood obesity and youth focused dietary habits; Exploring strategies to address undernutrition, over nutrition and micronutrient deficiencies; Exploring the role of nutrition in empowering Africa’s rapidly growing youth population; Innovations in medical Nutrition therapy for managing chronic and acute illnesses; Integration of AI in nutrition programs. Strategies presented across these topics underscored how much individuals and organizations are on the look out for nutrition interventions that work.
In her remarks, the guest of honor, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Health, Dr. Diana Atwiine highlighted the need for household focused interventions if malnutrition is to be well managed.
