About Nutrition Society of Uganda
The Nutrition Society of Uganda is an umbrella professional body for nutritionists established in Uganda to increase the visibility of nutrition, coordinate actions, and train more nutritionists. The society ensures that nutrition is not merely a process, but an essential input for all development outcomes and is thus dedicated to increasing the visibility of the country’s nutrition profession and influencing national nutrition strategic actions. The Nutrition Society is a successor organization of the former Uganda Action for Nutrition (UGAN) which was established in 1999 to streamline nutrition education and advocacy in Uganda. Since its inception, over 400 members have been registered being nutritionists representing different parts of Uganda. A lot has been achieved especially in the area of influencing policy in the health and nutrition sector.
Our Objectives
NSU brings nutritionists together and provides a voice and a special platform for them to interact with the following objectives:

Provide a platform for collaborative linkages among individuals, institutions, public and private organizations dealing with nutrition issues.

Regulate nutrition professional development and practices.

Advocate for strategic actions and policies in nutrition and food security.

Enhance sharing, learning and social behavior change regarding the value and benefits of adequate nutrition
The membership of NSU has played a pivotal role in contributing to the fight against hunger and malnutrition in Uganda. Today, the NSU is well positioned to link support and influence government, civil society organizations (SCOs), and the private sector for effective nutrition policy development and programming nationwide. The society works with key stakeholders to ensure that nutrition actions in Uganda are effectively implemented and that all existing and future policy frameworks become functional.
